Coalition to Preserve and Grow Northern Maine Coalition Newsletter - Issue Number 23 Mark Scarano, Piscataquis County Economic Development Council Jim Batey, Somerset Economic Development Corporation Treasurer Diane K. Bartley, DKB Catering, Greenville Greenville Public Hearing Wednesday January 11 The Town will present these suggestions to Plum Creek Timber Company to consider as they continue to revise their plan. Plum Creek recently informed the Greenville Board of Selectmen that they hope to resubmit their proposal by March 1 at the latest. Coalition members from Greenville are encouraged to attend this meeting and voice their opinions. Co-Chair Mark Scarano: “This is an encouraging development in terms of hearing directly from the people most effected by the Plan – the year round residents of Greenville. The people who live and work in Greenville, have family here, have children in the school system, who know what the exact needs of the town are – that’s who needs to have the strongest voice.” Greenville Town Manager John Simko will compile all the comments from the Public Hearing and present them to Plum Creek. Coalition Sponsors Annual Sportsmen’s Congress Coalition Co-Chairs Jim Batey and Mark Scarano gave a joint presentation on the Coalition, talking about its origin, mission and the reasons why the Coalition supports the Plum Creek Plan. The audience included the Commissioners and staff of the Departments of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Conservation and Marine Resources, many Legislators, leaders of organizations such as the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, Maine Professional Guides Association, Maine Bowhunters Association, Maine Snowmobile Association, ATV-Maine, Maine Trappers Association, North Maine Woods, Safari Club, Trout Unlimited and many more. Governor John Baldacci gave the keynote address. Access to land and water for outdoor recreation such as hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and hiking was a key topic of the day. As Maine Guide John Rust noted, “Guides, snowmobilers and sportsmen need landowners (access) but the landowners don’t really need us. We are therefore very grateful when a landowner allows open access, and Plum Creek has been one of the best.” New Coalition Member Visit the Coalition Web Site Coalition Information Center Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter.
