Weekly Fact about the Plum Creek Plan
The 5 objectives of the Plum Creek Plan are as follows:

  1. Protect and maintain the working forest
  2. Enhance recreation and tourism
  3. Conserve and protect valued land and water resources
  4. Provide land for economic enterprises
  5. Provide for orderly lot development

Your Chance to Suggest Changes
Plum Creek continues to listen to individuals and groups throughout Maine who are suggesting changes to its plan for its lands around Moosehead Lake.

What would you like to see different in the Plan? What changes do you think would make the Plan better? What are your main concerns with the Plan, and how would you address those concerns?

Your comments will be collected and presented to Plum Creek by Coalition Co-Chairs Mark Scarano and Jim Batey.

Please email your ideas to: info@preservegrowme.org, or mail them to:

It’s important that Plum Creek hear from Maine people about ideas to make the Plum Creek Plan as effective as it can be in balancing conservation, maintaining the working forest and promoting economic development.

Cost-Share Plan for the Unorganized Territory
Greenville Town Manager John Simko has drafted a unique cost-sharing proposal that seeks to address the inequities in tax rates between the Unorganized Territory and neighboring towns. Simko has proposed that a cost-sharing formula be created in which the Unorganized Territory would contribute for indirect services provided by neighboring towns, such as recreational facilities and airports.

To help defray the capital costs of new or expanded infrastructure, the need for which would be triggered by growth in the Unorganized Territory, Simko has recommended the creation of an account that would be funded either by a common, region-wide impact fee for major development or by a percentage of new property tax revenue in the unorganized territory and surrounding communities.

Simko will present his proposal to a State commission studying the delivery of services to the Unorganized Territory on November 29, 2005.
