The 2006 Annual Meeting of the Maine Woods Coalition was held at DKB Catering in Greenville on November 2. Members and guests enjoyed a buffet luncheon, which was followed by the business meeting. Newly elected members to the Steering Committee include Reuben “Benny” Lumbra, William Boisvert, Eugene Mahar, David Cyr, and Tom McCormick. Officers elected include Anne Mitchell, Chairwoman and President; Gene Conlogue, Vice Chairman and Vice President; John Bertl, Secretary; and Tom Roberts, Treasurer. It was announced that the update to the Maine Woods Coalition map is complete and copies will be available for purchase. This map, created for the Coalition by the James W. Sewall Co. in Old Town, shows the extensive amount of land currently under protection from development in the Maine woods, along with potential additions to these protected areas. The Maine Woods Coalition, initially organized to oppose the creation of a federal park in the Maine woods, also works to promote forest industries, recreational and commercial uses, and traditional access to Maine's forests.
